MAKE UP GAMES
In general there are no make up games, it effects the entire schedule. If an individual or team cannot make it to a game they are responsible for arranging subs to be there for them. This includes letting your partner know as well as letting Austin Beach know via email. It's common courtesy. If you are having a difficult time finding a sub let us know and we'll see if we can help if we can. If you do not find a sub then a forfeit will take place.
FORFEITS
We allow 10 minutes after game time before a forfeit is awarded for the first game of the match. After 10 minutes have passed, we will then allow 10 more minutes before the second game is forfeited. If the second game has not started at the end of the 20 minutes, the entire match is forfeited. The forfeiting team will pay the team they were suppose to play the forfeit fee. The forfeiting team will be responsible for paying any ref fee’s (if applicable) prior to the next match. You will be given one warning. The next time you forfeit, we will replace you with no refunds given.
Teams may start with less than the legal amount of players or with substitutes as long as the opposing team is in agreement before the match begins.
6’s: minimum players on court - 5
4’s: minimum players on court - 3
PLAYERS CONDUCT
Team Captains are responsible for the conduct of their players. The use of excessive profanity, throwing sand, kicking the ball or pulling on the net is considered unsportsmanlike conduct and will not be tolerated. Players ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct must leave the court area for the duration of the game. Any player or Captain that physically/verbally abuses anyone at ABVC will be escorted from the courts and may be suspended for the remainder of the season and no refunds given. ABVC reserves the right to suspend any Captain, player or spectator for undesirable behavior.
CANCELLATION/MAKE UP POLICY
Bad weather conditions may cause delays or cancellation of play. Any games that are cancelled will be added to the end of the 7 week season. (extended one week) In situations where the above is not possible, games may be rescheduled on a weekend or another night of play if both teams agree. If a cancellation is necessary, we will 1)contact all team Captains via email, 2)post cancellation information on ABVC website and 3)update ABVC hotline at 512-272-4280. We will attempt to provide as much advance notice for cancellations as possible. (by 5pm at the latest)
If it’s necessary to cancel on a play off night, one attempt will be made to reschedule. If the second date has to be cancelled, the champs and runner’s up will be determined based upon current records (wins/losses/points) and we will move on to the next league session.
WAIVER/ROSTER
To be eligible to play at ABVC, all league individuals must sign the waiver and be listed on the official roster and pay the required fee. Players may play on as many teams as they want provided they are on the roster and pay the fee’s. Substitutes can be added to the roster up until playoffs. In doubles it is encouraged that at least one original member be in the playoffs.
GAME SCHEDULES
Schedules will be posted on the website.
REFEREEING
Ref’s are provided for 6’s and 4’s leagues. Teams must pay a cash ref fee of $6.00 per match for a total of $12.00 per night to the ref on their court. 3’s and 2’s are self monitored.
PRIZES
Teams who finish first in their division with the best win-loss record will receive free entry into the next league. Free entry is for the “team” only, no individual substitutions allowed. League ties are resolved by (1) head to head, win-loss record (2) head to head, point differential, (3) overall point differential. All first and second place teams will be eligible to compete in end of season Championship tournament in November.

ABVC GENERAL COMPETITION REGULATIONS
These rules have been adopted by ABVC and USA Volleyball. ABVC recognizes there are many different organizations, associations and interpretations of volleyball. All players must know and abide by the rules of play. These rules have been amended in some areas, mainly to enhance the game and stay within the time constraints of the league. The Director has absolute authority over players, game officials and spectators on and off the court. The Director may make any necessary decisions regarding format, seeding and other issues.
Attack/Block:
You cannot block a ball on the opponent’s side of the net unless the opponents have either already completed 3 contacts or are trying to take the ball over. You can never spike a ball on the opponent’s side of the net unless the opponents have either already completed 3 contacts or are trying to take the ball over. You can never spike the ball on the opponent’s side of the net. You may however contact the ball above the plane of the net or on your side of the net and follow through to your opponent’s side of the net. The block does not count as a team contact in 4’s or 6’s. In 2’s, AVP rules are in effect, the block does count as a team contact but either player can contact the ball after the block (there are only 2 more contacts after the block)
Boundaries:
The ball must travel between the antenna’s. If any part of the ball contacts the antenna or passes over the vertical extension of the antenna, it is out of play. Players may not use the poles or any part of the court or other players to help propel him into the air.
Center Line:
A player may cross center while playing the ball as long as the player does not interfere with the opponent. Interference is not necessarily determined by contact. You cannot touch the net with any part of your body or clothing. Hair in the net is not a violation.
Double Hit:
You may only double hit a hard driven ball as long as it is one attempt at playing the ball (the serve is never considered a hard driven ball). Open hand digs (beach digs) are allowed as long as the ball is spiked from above the net. The ball should not come to rest or visually caught and thrown. ABVC is very liberal on beach digs as long as it is a hard spiked ball from above the net.
Dinks:
Open hand dinks will not be allowed in 2’s, 3’s or 4’s. The ball cannot contact the palm of the hand for the purpose of misdirecting the ball. The ball may only touch the palm of the hand if the player is swinging at or attacking the ball. Open hand dinks are allowed in 6’s.
Serve:
The server may not step on or touch the end line in any way, or contact the playing surface until the ball is contacted. You may break the imaginary plane above the end line as long as the ball has been contacted before touching the playing surface (as when jump serving). You can serve anywhere behind the end line. You cannot receive the serve open handed, hands must be together.
Setting:
A hand set ball must be contacted and released simultaneously with both hands and may not visually come to rest or be carried. Rotation shall not be an automatic determination of a ball handling foul. Overhand over-sets must cross the plane of the net parallel to your shoulders in a forward or backward direction or it is considered a misdirection of the ball. No exceptions including the wind. Bump sets can be over-setting.
Substitutions:
Substitutions are unlimited. Teams that begin a game with the minimum players necessary may add players as soon as the play is over. If you start a game with more females and a male player shows up later, the male player cannot sub in for the female but can sub for the male for the duration of that game. Players must be separated male/female to the best of their ability. In co-ed leagues (6‘s/4‘s) , there must be a minimum of two female players on the court at all times. There may be more females than males.
LEAGUE DIVISION RULES
Fours:
Players cannot receive the serve open handed. Hands must be together. Players must maintain the same service order. Players are permitted to play in any position on the side of the court they occupy. Players are not permitted to open hand dink.
Co-Ed Fours:
There cannot be more than 2 males on the court at any time. A female player must contact the ball if the ball is contacted more than once.
Co-Ed Sixes:
Players are allowed to receive the ball open handed when receiving the serve. One back row male may block at the net during a rotation where two females are positioned in the front row, but he is not permitted to attack the ball in front of the 10’ line. Back row players may not leave the ground and attack the ball from in front of the attack line. Players must be in correct rotation before the ball is served. Players may serve from anywhere behind the service line. Players must be separated male/female to the best of their ability. Front row players are not permitted to leave the ground when receiving the serve. Players must rotate after each side-out. Players are permitted to open hand dink.
